The Qur'an
(sometimes spelled Koran) was revealed to the prophet in the
Arabic language. While there are translations of the Qur'an into
numerous languages, these are considered mere interpretations and
are not regarded as highly as the Arabic text. The ability to read
the Qur'an is highly valued. Even more highly valued are those who
have commited the Qur'an to memory and are able to recite it.
(Displaying Arabic characters in a web browser is
usually done one of two ways. The first, and more common is to
display the Arabic text as a graphic image. The "Bismillah"
above is an example. The second requires the user to have an
Arabic font installed on her computer. Except where noted, this
web site will not require special software to display Arabic
characters.)
